DELINEATING AMERICAN VALUES THROUGH THE “SEE YOU IN THE COSMOS” NOVEL BY JACK CHENG

Abstract


This paper focuses on American values in the "See You in the Cosmos" novel. This research aims to identify the types of American values represented in this novel. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. Additionally, the writer does library research to support the research. The results of this study indicate that there are six American Values in the novel See You in the Cosmos. This study applies Stuart Hall's Theory of Representation, by which meanings are formed and transmitted among members of a culture. This theory involves the use of language as a medium of representation of a value.
